Who is behind the success of COS?
The headquarter of the label is located in London. From there, brand managers Marie Honda, creative directors Karin Gustafsson and Martin Andersson and their team successfully control the processes of COS. Marie Honda, born in Stockholm, is interested in illustration, graphics and modedesign at an early age. After various courses in these areas, including the London College of Fashion and the London College of Printing, she began her work as a buyer at H & M in Stockholm. A few years later, she moved back to London, where she initially worked as a buyer for the menswear and, from 2009, also for the COS kidswear, before becoming the brand director of COS in 2011. The design team of COS consists of the Swedish Karin Gustafsson and Martin Andersson, who already had their own labels before their work at COS. Karin Gustafsson studied Modedesign at the Royal College of Art in London and was recruited immediately after her final presentation of COS. Andersson also studied moded design and has already worked for various menswear labels, including Hackett London, for example, before becoming Creative Director for Menswear at COS in 2008. Although Andersson is responsible for the Menswear and Gustafsson for the Womenswear, the designers for the collections work closely together so that a clear line exists and a coherent collection can be developed. The design duo is mainly inspired by art, architecture and traveling.
What makes the unique style of COS?
The fashion of COS lies between Couture and High Street and thus successfully fills a niche in the fashion world dominated by fast fashion chains and great designers. COS pursues the goal of designing fashion that is affordable but does not lose quality and high design skills. The clothing of the label has a simple aesthetic design, which is often referred to as minimal chic or scandi chic.
